The Word Nerd’s Office Remodel

If you’ve been feeling uninspired in your workspace (either at work or home) take this as your sign to spruce up your space! If your significant other or co-worker gives you push back or looks confused at your sudden HGTV dreams, just tell them Amanda said you could do it! I’ve been gathering the materials for this office remodel for like the last year and finally I decided that if I didn’t just write it into my calendar it wasn’t going to happen. So I did, and then, I did. (With a lot of help. Thanks mom, Kate (my sister), Dave (the handy-man) and Matt (my husband) for your sweat equity and also for the items you gifted me to complete the space.) I am IN-LOVE with my moody forest vibes office and am so excited that I now get to create all sorts of word nerd goodness surrounded by this greenery, comfort, and magic. To see a shopping list of items I used and maybe snag a few for yourself, keep scrolling.

The Views

Notes: The peel and stick wall paper was pain and still isn’t looking the way I want. I’d highly recommend going the real-deal route if you want to wallpaper… just don’t tell your husband. (Mine is morally opposed…. too many residual nightmares from the 1990’s.)

The trunk is from the St. Rose Convent. The nuns moved in, bringing all their worldly possessions… and then would never leave. The “trunk room” got too full, so they had an auction. My mom bought me this one for $25 in the ‘90s and I’ve had it with me ever since.

The typewriter was gifted to me by my husband for one of our anniversaries. What do you get a word nerd? That typewriter is the answer! (Along with personalized license plates: WRD-NRD!)

I am especially proud of that ivy feature wall. A character of mine did it for real (with real plants) in Champion Chocolatier #4: Destiny by Design and it was so fun to try and pull it off. I love the final product! And of course, I couldn’t NOT re-do my rainbow bookshelf. I weeded out a few titles and am not sure where I’ll put any new books I buy, but it looks good right now.

Ignore the tools and bowl of left over nails I didn’t put away before the picture (smh). The bushel basket is from an actual orchard and filled with magazines (Oh Reader!) and Taylor Swift album extras. My mother-in-law gifted me that massive Harry Potter book and it fit the color scheme too well to put it all the way away. The walking stick was carved for me by my Grandma Marilyn and is a lovely reminder she’s still walking with me. The shelves are filled with book cover art (many painted by Rachel Wunsch), framed inspirational quotes, golden animals (the only kind I’ll let in my house don’t make noise, eat anything or have a smell) and a few fake succulents because I suck at keeping plants alive.

Searching for these items over the past year was as fun as a treasure hunt, but if you’d like to cut your search time down and use a few of them, I’ve put a few links below. :)

The Items

Click each item below and it will take you to the shopping link. :)

The two chairs are from TJ Maxx… and I couldn’t find them online. Just go shopping and see what comfy seating options you can find! :)

If you’re curious where I started, here are a few pictures of the BEFORE. (Okay, confession, this is what my office looked like when it was BRAND NEWLY done after the last renovation. Please know it did not stay this clean and also that it did not look this good before I dug into this next decoration iteration.)

Happy remodeling and redecorating!
