10 Things I Love About Close Quarters: A Pivotal Pause
When I was in high school one of my favorite movies was 10 Things I Hate About You. It had everything I loved. Currently trendy actors/actresses, nerdy references to Shakespeare, a good soundtrack and an underdog storyline. In case you were outside of your teen years, or not quite yet to them when this movie released, here’s a quick introduction.
In homage to that 90’s classic, I’m going to tell you 10 Things I LOVE about my newest book, Close Quarters: A Pivotal Pause, which released yesterday.
#10 - I love that it picks up right where the last book left off.
I’m guessing I won’t have to work too hard to remind you that I left book 1 at a pretty big cliffhanger. Good news for you is that I pick the Ames cousins up right where I left them, in January 2020 and waste zero time filling you in on their plans for the immediate future.
#9 - I love that it takes place in my hometown.
I love giving shoutouts to local businesses and lifting them up. LIfe in the entrepreneurial world can be hard. Why not make it easier by sharing the spotlight? Here’s the list of local businesses, as we in my family like to say “made the cut”, for book 2. I hope that you’ll decide to visit them (safely) soon!
#8 - I love that it doesn’t take place in my hometown.
Mia and Harper decide that their adventures are going to take them elsewhere and so I had a fun time exploring new areas as well. (No spoilers, I promise… you’ll have to read to see where their travels take them!) One of my favorite parts of being a writer is that you don’t always have to leave home to experience, learn or travel to something new.
#7 - I love that it mimics our current times.
I wanted to write a story that would help people process and make sense of the crazy times that we are living in. I hope readers find moments of clarity, community, humor and hope in the pages of this story. I hope they see moments of familiarity that bring them joy and moments of aggravation that help them know they are not alone in their frustrations. I hope that, even if their own story isn't unfolding the way they desired or planned, that it still arrives at a happy ending.
#6 - I love the literary shoutouts.
Books continually make a massive impact on my life and so I wanted to share a few titles that influenced me during this time. Again, I’m hopefuly that readers will take these subliminal suggestions and pick up a few of these books to act as a guide for these times, or at the very least, as an entertaining distraction.
#5 I love that I’m doing an EPIC giveaway!
I want you to be just as excited about this book release as I am, so I’m running a great giveaway. There are 4 easy ways to enter, and 2 great prizes. Check it out!

#4 - I love that I was able to work with Rachel Wunsch again to design a gorgeous cover!
way back when Rachel painted the landscape art for the first cover I knew I wanted her to do the art for all of the books in this series. But time passes and deadlines don’t always coincide… I wasn’t sure I’d be able to make this book dream a reality… BUT we did. I am thrilled with the final result and so grateful Rachel is just as excited about working together. Here are a few sneak peeks of the original art from her studio!
#3 - I love that I can share sneak peeks with you via video!
I’ve been making a few videos to share sneak peeks and important information with you. If you are more of an auditory learner, or if you’d like to listen to the first chapter, click below and then sit back and enjoy!
#2 - I love that I’ve created a unique and cool launch event.
Current times have forced me to get a bit creative, but I love a challenge. Inspired by the infamous pandemic birthday parades, I will be having a drive through book launch event. Pre-order your book via my website anytime up until November 18, and then pick it up (along with some fabulous food!) at Restore Public House anytime between 5 and 8 on Thursday, November 19. You can email me with any questions and check out the Facebook Event for ongoing updates here.
#1 - I love that this book is about family.
You can see from the beginning pages, starting with the dedication and going all the way through to the end with my note thanking my own family for the ways in which they support me, that family is pretty darn near everything to me. I love that I am able to include snipits of my real life in the pages of the fiction I create.
Alrighty, that’s it. All 10 Things. If you’d like to order your copy of the book, here are three ways you can make it happen.

Finally, affiliate marketing is promoting a product or service in return for a commission. When you purchase a product or service through one of my links, I earn a small part of the sale. There is NEVER any extra cost to you. If you looked up the same product on the same site through another source besides my website, the price will still be exactly the same. 100% of the time.
I also NEVER link to products or services that I don't 100% believe in. I will never tout a company or their goods if they are disreputable or if I don't believe them to be worthy of your hard-earned money. In no way are my affiliate links a scam.
