10 Social Media Post Ideas to Market Your Writing
In January I did a business deep dive. I wanted to learn all the things when it came to running a small business. Because as a writer in today’s world I am in business for myself. I’m an authorpreneur. I truly spend just as much time, if not more, marketing and selling my books as I do writing them.
I learned so much that I created an entire eCourse so that I could share all that goodness with others who were interested in achieving their own authorpreneur goals.
But then, I couldn’t stop. I kept learning. I kept finding great ways to spread the word about my work. I kept a list in my phone notes app so I wouldn’t forget. Last week when I checked that list it was pretty substantial. Sometimes the hardest part is figuring out what to say about your work, but now I have a list from which I can build social media posts, blogs and more. I figured my list could be helpful for others as well, so today, I’m publishing it on my blog. I know it’s super anti-Midwest of me to include examples of all of my work next to these ideas… but it is my hope that if you see it in action, you can replicate it for yourself!
Grab a notebook and a pencil, because you’re gonna want to write these down.
10 Social Media Post Ideas to Market Your Writing
1. Take a picture or screenshot of your book’s of Amazon listing and point to number of reviews. Shout out a particularly good review or ask for more reviews. Remind your readers how important these reviews are for social proof and also the Amazon algorithms!
2. Follow and reach out to book reviewers and podcast hosts via Instagram. I’m pretty great at selling books to people I know, but struggle when it comes to the rest of the wide world. I’ve recently realized I connect with friends on Facebook, but I can connect with strangers on Instagram. Once these new Instagramers and I get to know each other a little bit, I go in for the ask. Through this strategy I’ve shared my book with thousands of people I don’t know and also have been booked two future podcast episodes!
3. This great idea comes from a woman in my entrepreneur group. Tracy of Driven 4 Wellness asked people to respond to her question in an emoji. I’ve never seen such great interaction on a post. Bonus, it also doubled as market research, because her audience’s responses told her what level of participation they were at with her company. Brilliant!!
4. Record the first chapter of each of your books and put them on YouTube. These videos will be great to share on your website and social media channels and give new-to-you readers a chance to try your book out for free. Also, if you ever want to monetize a YouTube channel, you need to accumulate 4,000 hours of watch time first. These videos would be a good way to start working towards that total.
5. Hashtag posts that you can repeat each week without much thought are great fodder for keeping up a consistent posting schedule on social media. Just like your days of the week undies from elementary school, but maybe a bit more practical, here are a few day-specific hashtags that you can use.
6. One thing I am constantly trying to do is expand my reach. I tried meeting new readers from new states by running a States-Like Contest on Facebook. Use Canva to create a similar graphic for yourself and then throw it up on your page for some new engagement and interaction. (Hint: You may have to ask friends to help get the ball rolling… but once it does, you are sure to see some new followers come your way!)
7. Use an app like word swag to spice up what you want to say. If pictures say a thousand words, why not combine both words and pictures to get the most bang for your buck!?!?!
8. Use time lapse video to do a quick show and tell. Video is a leading engagement tool on social media right now. Capitalize on short attention spans by adding a short and easy video that will force people to pause their scrolling and pay attention to your content. 9. Shout out your email list! Remind people of the freebies they receive when they sign up. If Facebook and Instagram disappear tomorrow, you’ll still have your email list. Do what you can to convert your social follows to your list because unlike social media algorithms, you have complete and total control of your email list.
